Student Consultant, Part-Time

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be an enrolled UCLA undergraduate studentMust have at least 3 quarters left before graduation Excellent customer service skills Excellent work ethic and initiative Knowledge of Windows-based PCs or Macintosh hardware and software. Experience with both systems is helpful Experience with popular software packages (i.e., MS Office, Explorer, Netscape) Knowledge of statistical and/or language software a plusWillingness to learn new systems and software programs, and impart that knowledge to users and other staff members
  • All new consultants must attend Fall training in order to be employed at CLICC. Fall training will be held Sept. 22-24, 2008 9am-5pm.

Job Description:

  • Working productively and creatively with minimal supervision
  • Working face-to-face with all levels of users and co-workers to answer questions and solve problems
  • Identifying and logging hardware/software problems, make minor fixes
  • Checking out and troubleshooting laptop computers and achieving a general level of competence with various hardware

Work Hours

  • Very flexible! Please refer to our lab, classroom, and laptop pod hours
  • Minimum 10 hours per week
  • Maximum 19.5 hours a week
  • Online trading system is available for unforseen schedule change needs
  • Overnight shifts: Student Consultants must be available to work at least one overnight shift (from 2am - 8am) each quarter. The CLICC lab is open all night for 8 weeks of the quarter.

    Pay and Promotions:

    All new hires are started at the Trainee level ($9.77) until they have worked a certain number of hours at each location and can pass a test. After passing the test, trainees will be promoted to Consultants with an increase in pay.

    Consultants who wish to take on more responsibility (Lead Consultant) or specialize in a particular area (laptops, software, hardware, classrooms, programming) may apply for promotions.
