Hours

Classrooms B and C (Powell 320) are open to drop-in users as long as there is not a class scheduled for that time of the day. Classroom A (Powell 307) is NOT available for drop-in users.
  • Hours for the classrooms are typically M-Th 8am-11pm, F 8am-6pm. For current daily hours, please CLICC here.

Equipment

Classrooms
The CLICC Classrooms & Wireless Carts located in 320C, 320B and 307A Powell provide an electronic teaching facility with workstations for all class participants. All classrooms are equipped with overhead projection from the instructor station, VCR, laptop hook-ups, and in some cases microphones.
  • Classroom A (Powell 307A) - 14 student dual-boot macbook laptops; 1 instructor, (Windows XP & OSX); Classroom B (Powell 320B) - 23 student PC desktop stations; 1 instructor, (Windows XP)
    Classroom C (Powell 320) - 50 student PC desktop stations; 1 instructor (Windows XP)
  • 1 Scanner that is shared between the three classrooms as needed

CLICC Classrooms are designed to serve primarily the needs of faculty and TA’s teaching undergraduate courses in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Priority will be given to undergraduate courses.

Laptops on Carts
All of the cart laptops are capable of connecting wirelessly to the campus wireless network (UCLAWLAN). If the UCLAWLAN is not present at the location, then the carts can generate a wireless connection as long as there is a General Assignment Classroom Network port within the facility being used.

  • 4 Windows XP & Mac OS X dualbook macbook laptop carts (16 laptops per cart)

Portable Projector Kit or 'Presentation Kit' *New*
Users with a valid BruinCard can now check-out a portable projector kit from the CLICC
Lab for their presentation work and classes.  There is a 6-hour check-out time limit. The kit may only be checked-out from and returned to the CLICC Lab (145 1st Floor of Powell). 

The kit includes:

  • One Portable Epson Projector with connectors (VGA, power plug, and remote control)
  • One Surge Protector
  • One Stereo Plug (male to male) for attaching the sound sorce to an external sound system
  • One set of small stereo speakers

CLICC recommends calling the CLICC Classrooms (310-825-8208) or the CLICC Lab (310-206-0271) in advance to reserve the projector system for the date and time needed. 

Multimedia stations (in 320C Powell)

  • 3 Power Mac G5 desktops with 20” Cinema Displays
  • 1 JVC HR-DVS2 Mini DV/S-VHS VCR transfer decks
  • 2 JVC SR-VS30U mini DV/S-VHS. PRO-DV Recorder transfer decks
  • 3 extra monitors for previewing
  • Sandisk ImageMate 12 in 1 memory card reader (CompactFlash Type I/II, SD, miniSD, MultiMedia, RS-MMC. Memmory Stick Pro/Duo/Pro Duo, SmartMedia, and xD)
  • 3 Samson C01U USB Studio Condenser Mic
  • 3 M-Audio XLR Aries Condensor Mic
  • 3 Mobilepre USB Bus-Powered Preamp and Audio Interface

For Hi-8 tapes faculty or students need to bring in their own Hi-8 camera to be able to transfer data from the tape to the Mac. We also have various video and audio adaptors and cables. The multimedia or “transfer” stations are available to all users although reservations for 2-hour blocks of time in advance are recommended. For reservations, users may call 310-825-8208 or see staff in the CLICC Classrooms office, Powell 320C.

External hard drives (firewire)

  • 30 (120GB) formatted for Mac hard drives
The hard drives are shared by groups of students in classes working on video projects and are usually checked out for the entire quarter. Instructors must make arrangements with CLICC in advance of the quarter in which they plan to use the drives since the number of drives are limited.

General Policy
  • Reservation requests should be made at least one (1) week prior to the date requested. For a wireless cart reservation, CLICC recommends reserving at least two (2) weeks in advance.
  • Reservation requests must be for hours during which the classrooms and Powell Library are usually open.
  • All those with reservations for CLICC Classrooms are encouraged to schedule an orientation meeting with the Classroom Coordinator to preview the software and equipment.
  • Cancellations of reservations should be made at least 24 hours prior to the reservation time.
  • If a scheduled class is 20 minutes late for its reserved time, the reservation will be cancelled and the classrooms will open for Drop-In users.
  • After- and before-hours classroom requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Undergraduate & Graduate UCLA Instruction
  • All reservation requests are handled in the order received and confirmed via email.
  • Priority is given to undergraduate courses in the Social Sciences and Humanities.
  • Reservation requests are accepted year-round. Requests for an future quarter will be confirmed via email three (3) weeks prior to the start of the quarter for which the request has been made..
  • All room and resource assignments for confirmed reservations, regardless of course or division, are subject to change depending on enrollment figures and eventual class size. For example, a class with lower than expected enrollment may be moved to a smaller classroom.
  • Special data set upload requests must be submitted at least two weeks prior to date it is to be used in classrooms.
  • Requests for software must be made at least 6 weeks prior to the quarter in which the software will be used.
Other UCLA Departments, Divisions & Groups

Reservations for use by UCLA departments, divisions, or groups for anything other than courses listed by the registrar as undergraduate or graduate courses, such as extension courses, staff training, special conferences or workshops, may do so only on a case-by-case basis with the following conditions:

  • The reservation request must be submitted at least one week prior to the date requested. Confirmation of the request cannot be made until one week prior to the date requested. Only software currently available on CLICC computers may be used. Installation of specialized software will not be possible.   • All participants must have UCLA Logins and must be able to log into the computers without assistance.
