The College Library Instructional Computing Commons (CLICC) Classrooms are three electronic learning spaces with desktop stations and laptops, as well as other instructional equipment and services, located on the third floor of the Powell Library Building. These electronic learning spaces are designed to serve primarily the needs of faculty and teaching assistants teaching undergraduate courses in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Priority is given to undergraduate courses.

The three electronic learning spaces are located in 307A, 320B and 320C Powell Library Building, also known as Classrooms A, B and C. Classrooms A has twenty laptops that connect to the Internet using the UCLA Wireless Network. Classroom B has twenty six wired laptops and Classroom C, our biggest classroom, has fifty Windows desktop stations and two Media Stations.

Hours and Availability

Hours for these electronic learning spaces are generally Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. - 10:30 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (These resources are closed on weekends and university holidays.)

Classrooms B and C are open to drop-in users only when there is not a class occurring at that time of the day. Classroom A is for instructional use only, and is therefore not available for drop-in users.

For a information on classes meeting in the CLICC Classrooms and to view availability, please visit the Instructional Resource Management Application (IRMA) (external link).

Classroom Reservations

Please see Teaching at CLICC for complete details on how to reserve a CLICC electronic learning space. Generally, priority is given to undergraduate courses in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Reservation requests are done using our Instructional Resource Management Application (IRMA) (external link), an online reservation & scheduling system. Requests are confirmed via e-mail. For more information, see Teaching at CLICC.

Equipment

Computers

The Windows desktop stations in Classroom C (as well as the Classroom B instructor station) are identical to the ones in the CLICC lab, 145 Powell Library Building. The laptops used in Classrooms B and C (including the instructor laptops) are also identical to the laptops you check out from Powell Laptop Lending, 168 Powell Library Building. For more information about CLICC desktop and laptop hardware, please see Equipment.

Projectors

CLICC electronic learning spaces provide at least one ceiling-mounted overhead projector per classroom, with Classroom C having three allowing for multiple simultaneous displays. These projectors can connect to the instructor station provided, another CLICC laptop, or an instructor's personal laptop (provided they have a VGA or mini-DVI output). The projectors can also display DVDs or VHS tapes on our decks, as well as other equipment such as a WolfVision overhead projector, digital visualizer.

Projectors are also available for checkout; they include not only the projector but other related accessories bundled in a kit, and are thus called PresentationKits. For more information on what is included and how to check out these kits, please see Projectors.

Media Stations

In the back of Classroom C there are two Mac desktops that are primarily used for video editing. These stations are available to all users, but a reservation is required to use the stations, with a 2-hour limit. For more information about these stations and their use, please see Media Stations.

Printing

Printing is possible in the CLICC Classrooms, whether you're using a laptop or desktop station. Make sure you set up a print account with us if you do not already have one; you can ask the staff in the CLICC Classrooms office to create an account for you. For more information about how printing at CLICC works, please see Printers.

IMPORTANT: When printing from the CLICC Classrooms make sure that the printer you select starts with 'Class', e.g. 'ClassPrinter2'. Otherwise your print job may come out at another location and you'll need to go to that location to retrieve your printout!

Other Equipment

The CLICC Classrooms includes other instructional equipment, including a digital whiteboard, 3D scanner, and video editing accessories. For a complete list and descriptions, see Instructional Technology.

Software

All of our Windows-based machines have the exact same set of software, whether it’s a desktop or a laptop, or whether it’s located in the Lab/Commons or the electronic learning spaces. The same holds true for our Macintosh-based desktops and laptops.

For a list of software available at CLICC, see the CLICC Software List.

Some software and tools are specific to the electronic learning spaces' instructor stations. Software to help instructors with classroom management such as NetSupport School or Apple Remote Desktop allows an instructor to better direct activities on student stations. The WolfVision digital visualizer and software allow instructors to take JPG snapshots of whatever object they wish to display to their students. This device also works as an overhead transparency projector would work.

For more information about software and tools related to instruction at CLICC, please see Instructional Technology.

Support

Training Specialists are highly skilled CLICC consultants familiar with in electronic learning spaces and instructional technology. These specialists are available to help individual users, instructors, and even entire classes learn how to use all CLICC services and resources as well as some of CLICC software offerings. These include the special instructor software mentioned above, but also more common applications like Adobe Photoshop or specialized software like iMovie. Training Specialists hold office hours regularly for users with their questions.

Please see Hours and Help for more information about support at CLICC.
