Contact Us

For printing at CLICC, you must have a valid UCLA Logon and will need to to set up a print account with us before you start printing. Just ask a CLICC consultant in the lab, classrooms, or laptop lending location to set one up for you. They will ask for your 9-digit University ID or UCLA Logon and will tell you how much it costs and when you should expect to be billed for your printing. By setting up a CLICC print account, you are authorizing CLICC to bill you for the printouts you make at CLICC.

How To Print

Printing works differently on our desktop stations and our laptops. Please make sure you are logged on to your OWN account; if you arrive at a computer station that is already logged in, please LOG OFF, wait for the computer to restart, and log in using your own login details (UCLA logon and password). Otherwise your print job may not come out, or someone else may be billed for your prints. Please see Overview and Use for a full explanation on how to log on at CLICC.

Printing From a Desktop Station

If you are using the CLICC lab or CLICC Classroom C (either PC or Mac), simply log on to the computer at the prompt. From there you can print from your document, PDF, Web page, etc. When you select which printer, PLEASE make sure you select the appropriate printer for your location. For example, if you're in the CLICC lab, ONLY select printers that begin with 'Lab', such as 'LabPrinter1'. Otherwise your print job may come out at another location and you'll need to go there yourself to retrieve your printout!

Printing from a CLICC Laptop

If you checked out a laptop or are using the wireless laptops in the CLICC Classrooms, there is a simple 2-step process for printing, first connect to the VPN client and second, connect to the Auth client.

The detailed process is as follows: On the computer's desktop there should be an icon labeled 'VPN Client', as in Figure 1. Double-click on it, go to Connect, and log in using your UCLA Logon and password. Once it gives you the welcome message, go back to the computer's desktop and find the icon labelled 'UCLA Auth Client', as in Figure 2. Double-click on it and again log in using your login details. It may take several tries to successfully log in. For more details about the 'Verification Failed' error, please see Overview and Use. Remember to select the appropriate printer for your location For example, if you're printing from the Powell laptop lending station, the printer should be 'PowellLaptopPrinter'.

NEW Duplex Printing Option - Go Green

There is an option to print duplex or double-sided pages from CLICC desktops and laptops. Please note that there is a charge for each page of print. For example, if you print duplex or double-sided on a black and white printer, a single page with print on both sides would cost a total of .20¢ or .10¢ per side of print.

Black and white pages you print are 10¢ per page of print; color pages you print are 40¢ per page of print. For example, if you print duplex or double-sided on a color printer it charges you for each side of print or .80¢ total.

CLICC does not receive funding for printers, so all the cost of providing a printing service must be passed on to those who choose to use it. This includes the paper, toner, printer equipment, hardware maintenance, replacement parts, accounting and database software, and student consultant time to tend to it all.

Also be aware that you are charged for printouts even if you do not pick them up. All abandoned printouts are recycled every day at closing time.

Billing

Once your print job has cleared the queue and the system recognizes it as having printed, the charge for the number of sheets you printed is recorded in the system until the end of the quarter. We post the bills once a quarter for the previous quarter’s printing activity. You can check your balance by asking a lab consultant.

You will see the bill in your BAR (Billing and Accounts Receivable) account, the same account with your other UCLA charges such as registration fees, etc. To view your bill, go to the URSA Online web site http://www.ursa.ucla.edu (external link) From there you can also pay your bill, or if you prefer, you may pay in-person at B303 Murphy Hall.

Refunds

From time to time, you may get a printout that is faulty or of bad quality due to a printer or system error. The following qualify for a refund:
  • Low toner, or smudged output
  • Printer crinkling or tearing the pages (due to a paper jam or otherwise)
  • System or printer error

However, if you just do not like the look of what you printed, or want to change the margins, that is not a system problem and does not qualify for a refund.

If you are unsure of whether your printout would qualify as a refund, ask a consultant for help. They will help you determine if it is a system problem or not.

To request a refund, ask a consultant at the front counter and bring your faulty printout. All refunds must be requested on the day of the undesirable print job.

Other Common Questions

The date that appears on the bill does not coincide with the date that I was actually in the CLICC lab!
The date that appears on the bill is the date that the bill was generated. It does not indicate the day in which you were at the CLICC lab. If you would like to see an itemized list of charges, the best way to get that information is ask a consultant, send an email to , or use the form on the left.

Is there a service charge?
No. You are ONLY charged for your printouts.

I filed a print refund request and it is not reflected on my bill.
We deduct the refunds before you get billed, so the amount you see already has the refund calculated out. To see an itemized list of your printing activity, please see a CLICC consultant, send an email to , or use the form on the left.
