How To Connect to the InternetMost areas within Powell Library and the Research Library, including the CLICC Classrooms and the Group Study Rooms, are covered by the UCLA wireless network. To connect, select the UCLAWLAN network from the list of wireless available networks on your computer. The location of the list will vary by operating system; please ask a CLICC consultant if you can't find it. Once you've connected to the network, if you open a Web browser you will see a login screen; enter your details and you're good to go. You can also use the VPN client (located on the desktop) to connect, in which case you won't see the login screen when you open your browser, because you've already connected through the VPN.You can also use the Ethernet cable found in your laptop bag. For more details about wireless connectivity, including a map of wireless hotspots on campus, see Wireless. How To PrintFor information on printing, please see Printers. How To Save your DocumentsWhen using a CLICC laptop, you may save on to your own personal USB drive (or borrow one from the CLICC lab), or save onto the pcworkspace (W:) drive. When downloading documents from the Internet, such as from your webmail (Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, GMail) or from a class website, it is VERY STRONGLY recommended that you save your documents to disk instead of selecting 'Open'. DO NOT click 'Open', 'Save' to the workspace (W:) drive instead (NOT TO THE DESKTOP EITHER OR YOU MAY LOSE YOUR WORK)! Students have had trouble printing, and some have even lost their entire documents that they've been working on as a result of opening instead of saving. This also applies to our desktop stations.Special Hardware FeaturesWhether you're using Mac or Windows, you have the ability to play DVDs and music CDs. You can even burn CDs, and on the Mac, create DVD movies from scratch. See Software Tutorials? to learn more about movie making on the Mac.With the built-in iSight camera, you can take pictures of yourself to share with your friends, or start up a video chat in iChat or Skype. Uncomfortable using the trackpad? Dig down into your CLICC laptop bag and you'll find a mouse you can plug in to the USB port. A mini-DVI to VGA adapter is also included in your bag, so you can hook up a projector (such as CLICC's PresentationKit). You can also hook it up to the big-screen LCD monitors in the Group Study Rooms. To make reservations for the PresentationKit and/or the Group Study Rooms and to learn how to use them, please click on the respective links. Special Software FeaturesCLICC has equipment and software to support video editing, web design, image editing, etc. To get started, we offer step-by-step tutorials and office hours staffed by real people with real answers. Please see Software Tutorials? for links to the tutorials and for this quarter's schedule of office hours.CLICC also offers instructional software such as SPSS, we have STATA, we have the same exact set of software that's on our desktop stations in the CLICC lab and classrooms.
