Contact Us

We will help you as much as we can to get connected, but your laptop is your responsibility and we can only help with the network connection, not other kinds of hardware or software troubleshooting. Bruin OnLine (BOL) at Kerkhoff Hall, Suite 124 (phone number 310.267.4357, option 1) can help you with other issues.

What You'll Need

To connect to the Internet, you'll need either an Ethernet cable or a wireless connection from your laptop. You'll need to supply your own Ethernet cable; CLICC will NOT lend you one. Most modern laptops come with wireless built-in; otherwise, you may need to purchase a wireless adapter. Please see Wireless for a complete run-down of Wireless Internet at CLICC and UCLA.

If you're going to be transferring documents between your laptop and our CLICC computers, you'll need a USB drive. You may use your own, or we can let you borrow one. You can also email the files to yourself, or use an online storage service like Windows Live SkyDrive or Live Mesh to transfer files easily.

If you're watching a video online, watching a DVD movie, or just listening to music while you study, you'll need to wear headphones, as the library (and by extension CLICC) is a quiet area. You may wear your own, or we can let you borrow some.

How To Connect

To get Internet access, plug in the Ethernet cable to your laptop or select 'UCLAWLAN' from the list of wireless networks. Open a Web browser, and it will automatically open to the login web page. Enter your UCLA Logon and password. You will get a "Login Successful" message and will then be redirected to your homepage.

Another way to connect to the Internet is to download an application called VPN (Virtual Private Networking). This is a secured private network connection and is a great tool for remote accessing campus resources. You can download the application from the BOL website. After you have set up the program, simply log in using your UCLA Logon and password.

Some modern operating systems like Mac OS X, Windows Vista and Windows 7 have a built-in VPN client.

Printing

At this time, printing is not available from your laptop to CLICC's printers. If you would like to print, you'll need to transfer your files to a CLICC computer. Please ask a CLICC consultant if you need assistance.

Group Study Rooms

You may use your own laptop in the group study rooms. You can even connect to the big-screen LCD monitor provided your laptop has VGA output (if you have a Macbook with mini-DVI, you'll need to use an adapter, though we cannot supply you with one).

CLICC Classrooms

You may use your own laptop in the CLICC Classrooms, 320C Powell Library Building, whether you're in a class or a drop-in user. Your instructor may require you to use a CLICC computer. As always, you will not be able to print from your own laptop.
