The most convenient way of getting online is through UCLA's wireless network, whether you're using a CLICC laptop or one of your own. CLICC laptops have wireless built-in and are ready to go. Depending on your laptop you may already have wireless built-in (especially if your laptop is recent), or you may need to purchase an adapter.

The UCLA wireless network can work with 802.11b (Wireless-B) and 802.11g (Wireless-G).

What You'll Need

To use the wireless network, you'll need:
  • A valid UCLA Logon and password
  • A built-in wireless Internet antenna or wireless adapter (please see above)
  • Windows XP/Mac OS X or newer
  • VPN Client (optional but recommended). Newer versions of Mac OS X, Windows Vista and Windows 7 have a built-in VPN client.

How To Connect

Most areas in Powell Library, including the CLICC Classrooms and the Group Study Rooms, are within coverage of the UCLA wireless network. To connect, select the UCLAWLAN network from the list of wireless available networks on your computer. The location of the list will vary by operating system; please ask a CLICC consultant if you can't find it. Once you've connected to the network, if you open a Web browser you will see a login screen; enter your details and you're good to go. You can also use the VPN client (either downloaded or built-in to the OS) to connect, in which case you won't see the login screen when you open your browser, because you've already connected through the VPN.

Where to get help

CLICC consultants will help you as much as they can to get you connected. If not, we will send you to the Bruin OnLine (BOL) office in Kerckhoff Hall, suite 124, where they'll be able to fully troubleshoot any wireless problem you have.

Printing

Printing is only available on CLICC computers; it will not work on your own laptop. For instructions on how to print from a CLICC laptop, please see Printers.
